Maintain Your Locs During Summer Months

Hey ladies and gents! I am back for another week of tips and style options that you will definitely love and need! This week we’re going to get into locs (My favorite hair subject!) I love everything about locs. How every set is different, how they grow and mature over the years, the different grooming techniques, the large ones, and the micro size. EVERYTHING!

Locs are very low maintenance. They are definitely the epitome of a get-up-and-go type of style. After having your locs groomed, moisturizing every two to three days and making sure you cover them at night is ALL you need to do in between appointments. Now, if you’re someone who loves the outdoors, I have a few tips to protect your scalp from excessive sun and heat and keeping your locs moisturized. While it’s important to drink water all year long, the summer months are when your body loses a lot of water.

Drinking water plays a huge role in keeping your locs and even your skin moisturized. Protective styles are one of the best ways to protect your scalp from the sun and keeps your locs off of your neck while you’re frolicking in the sun! Summer is the best time to try out some new styles while staying cool! (I’ll drop a few styles at the bottom). Outside of drinking plenty of water, your moisture regime should be the same as always. Mist your locs with your leave-in (Oyin Handmade’s Juices and Berries) and follow that up with a light oil (Jinsa Essentials-you know we sell these right?!) and make sure you’re covering up those lovely locs at night to retain moisture.

Many of us use the summer heat as inspiration to get our bodies in shape, start running, exercise, and just spend more time outside being more active than in the colder months.

You’re probably going to be sweating more than usual because it’s hot! If that’s the case it is always okay to give your locs a rinse while in the shower to get rid of excess sweat and just that overall icky feeling. It is also a good idea to do this after swimming in the pool or ocean.

Locs are golden! I know I’m biased because I’m a loc’d Queen myself but I just love them so much. They are so easy to maintain and they don’t have to be perfect, all you have to do is make sure you have a consistent moisturizing regimen and in the hotter months, please do yourself a favor and put them in a cute updo.

Until next week Curlfriends!
