How to Prepare Your Hair For The Spring

Hey Curlfriends - it’s me again, Daneen, your favorite blogger at N Natural Hair Studio! Now that you have a few of the hottest styles for Spring 2022 (check out our previous post if you don't know), let’s get into how to switch up your hair routine for the season!

The weather is finally warming up! Spring is one the most popular seasons since it brings us pleasant changes all throughout our environment.

The temperature starts to rise, flowers, plants, and trees start to bloom and develop new leaves and flowers. You look around and you see curls bouncing on our melanin rich shoulders.

Outside is open and people are enjoying it to the fullest! You may not have given it much thought, but the change in weather can actually have a huge impact on your hair.

In the spring, the humidity in the air begins to increase. One thing we have in the DMV is humidity and you know that this can wreak havoc on your hair.

The increased moisture in the air can cause your hair to frizz and become unmanageable. If you have curly hair, you know that spring and definitely the summer is not the time to play around with your hair care routine!

There are a few things you can do to change up your hair care routine for spring.

  • Use lighter products that will not weigh your hair down.

  • Focus on hydration and moisture.

  • Use products that will help control frizz.

See below for all the products we use and sell in-house as of April 2022. We will let you know which of these you need in your regimen so that you can stop by and purchase. OR click this link to order them to your home! Once on our IG page, just click "view shop" and you're in.

Here are a few changes to help you get through the Spring

Cleansing

We all tend to swear more as the temperatures rise, especially if you’re someone that spends a lot of time outdoors. This can cause build up on the scalp and hair shaft. To combat this, you’ll need a good cleansing shampoo like which you can purchase at the salon. A clarifying shampoo (W recommend Influance's Deep Cleansing shampoo) is needed to effectively clean the hair and scalp. It can also be used to get rid of product build-up.

Conditioning

The change in weather, especially humidity, may cause frizz. Deep condition (We recommend Alikay Natural's Honey and Sage) and steam treatments can help combat this.

The use of a leave-in conditioner (We recommend Oyin's Leave-In Conditioner) is essential to fight against frizz during the spring. Leave-in treatments are especially important for individuals that spend a lot of time outdoors.

Oils

Follow up your leave in with an oil (We recommend Alikay Natural's Essential 17 Oil) to control frizz and seal in your moisture. Here are a few oils that you may have laying around that your hair would love orrrrrr stop by one of our locations to pick up one of our black owned brands that we carry.

  • sunflower oil

  • cottonseed oil

  • canola oil

  • olive oil

  • jojoba oil

  • meadowfoam seed

It’s always a pleasure sharing a bit of my knowledge with you all. Spring is springin so please pamper your hair a little extra this season!
